Teachers in Meru County and neighboring counties have been urged to take advantage of the Mwalimu National Sacco branch in Meru town to enhance the culture of saving.
Speaking during the official launch of the branch recently, Meru branch Chairman Mr Kenneth Gitonga noted that the branch has registered over 1,600 members in the last 13 months.
Mr Gitonga noted that the branch has made it easy for members to access services with reduced distance.
“Our members from Meru, Tharaka Nithi and parts of Embu and Isiolo counties have something to smile about. I appeal to members to maximize on the utilization of all products offered by our Sacco,” Mr Gitonga said.
He urged members to channel their salaries through the sacco to enable them reap more dividends as well as salary advances and other services.
The National Chairman Mr Shem Motuka said that the Sacco is strengthening its partnerships for provision of ATM services to ensure members access their funds with ease.
Mr Motuka further said that said that the Sacco will enhance provision of international money transfer services so as to remain ahead of the market leaders.
Over the last one year, the Sacco recorded Sh60.4 million in deposits and gave advances to the tune of Sh96.2 million.
Principal Secretary for Cooperative Development in the Ministry of Industrialization and Enterprise development Dr Nelson Githinji who presided over the launch noted that Saccos are key to the realization of the Vision 2030.
“The Vision 2030 recognizes Saccos as a prime mover in financial resource mobilization to create a vibrant and globally competitive financial sector in Kenya. A savings growth rate of over 30 percent per annum is required for the country to register a double digit GDP growth,” Dr Githinji said.
Mwalimu National Sacco CEO Joshua Ojall said that the Sacco is in the process of rolling out housing mortgages and insurance brokerage services for its members.
