Even at a time when law enforcement and justice systems in Kenya are very elaborate, residents of Kimachia in Tigania West find a place for age old traditional systems.
A man suspected of impregnating his 13 year old daughter was stripped, applied ash, draped with dry banana leaves and an immature banana bunch hung on his neck.
He was then paraded along the village streets for all to see.
This was known as ‘Gwaikua Nchandi’, a punishment meted out by age-mates to an errant member of community.
